Half a decade of stories

For most of you, the story of Black Lemon and how it emerged, is relatively unknown. But it’s a story as old as stories exist, a problem, a goal all merged with a dream. We Greeks love our ancient history and mythology references so much, to the point that its’ borderline cringe-worthy nowadays. Bare with me though. I’m not going to pretend that this team’s journey is as exciting as Ulysses’ or even the perils of the Trojan war. It’s close though (lol). Because it’s been a journey. THAT I can vouch for. I was there from the start. 

In 2016 this journey officially started. A famous guy here in Cyprus, the Registrar of Companies, put a seal on it and we shortly after we put a ring on it. On the 6th day of the 6th month of the 2016th year AC, we opened the door to relatively nothing. The discussions that occurred before that day, vanished (not really but what can we say?) into oblivion, and only the people that were there the day that Andreas’, the original inspirator and founder, uttered the words “that-shall-remain-unspoken” (we keep something as inside jokes) and made everybody bursts into laughter but also lit that lamp (you know, the one from cartoons) of that GRANDE idea. We will do our own TV, we bypass what keeps the production quality level low in our home country (aka traditional channels) and we set sail to conquer the world.

Well, that didn’t happen (yet). 

What did happen though is that we learned A LOT. About the industry we were hoping to get in, to conquer, to change. We found other problems to be solve. We played house with people that became our competitors, we sparked that fire in others. We changed team members, we reshuffled, we bootstrapped the SH*T out of this and when it felt exhausting, we got a good night’s sleep and went about it all over again. 

Now it’s not just a TV. It’s a group of a lot of things under the Black Lemon Projects umbrella. It’s a TV, it’s a Podcast division,it’s production and broadcasting, it’s actual casting, and more. We consult, we create, we envision, we want to create things never seen before and never made before. We found the best of the best in everything and promised them the world, but essentially gave them a mic and a camera and told them “go be the best of the best, we want the world to see”. We never managed to raise funds, because well covid, BUT covid gave us the gift of time. We regrouped and bootstrapped once again and got out there. 

And now we are here. As we are watching the dusk colors of the sun setting in 2021, we feel excited for this new year. 

2022 will be our year. The year we get to introduce everything and everyone and submerge every single one of you in a black and yellow world. Watch out...it’s gonna be legen - wait for it.
